People come, sometimes
several times a year, to unwind, to reconnect with the seasons,
good food, slow living, favourite haunts. They come to be
restored and refreshed, and we hope that we can continue to
offer the space to do so.
The bedrooms at Annapurna are
simply but comfortably furnished. Come for B&B, and relish fresh
free range eggs from our hens, home made bread, local free range
bacon: or be self sufficient in the annexe, with one double and
one single bedroom, sitting room/kitchen, and bathroom. The
annexe also has a small private outside place to sit and enjoy
coffee and croissants.
Sit in the garden, drink in the birdsong and read all those
waiting books you’ve brought with you: or wander through the
beautiful south Devon countryside, with its moorland, beaches,
rivers, gardens and a host of lovely National Trust houses to
visit.
Apart from being one of the
loveliest places to stay, you will discover Modbury’s great
sense of community, with the week long May Fair being one of the
year’s highlights. For me, though, it is the magical ‘Christmas
lights’ ceremony early in December which is favourite, and which
declares Christmas ‘open’ in the town. For half an hour, the
twenty first century has to wait, the road is closed to traffic,
the Town Crier does his stuff and the whole town turns out to
count down to the switch on. There are carols and music, all the
shops are lit up and open for mulled wine, mince pies –and
shopping!
And when you’ve enjoyed your day, come home, contemplate an inky
sky (no street lights around here) before you fall into
bed......
